Institute presentation

The undefinedUniversitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is the largest amongst Hamburg's hospitals with around 1600 hospital beds. Each year the medical center treats 92 000 in-patients and 291 000 out-patients – among them 122 000 emergency patients. The Department of Neurology runs a 16 bed Stroke Unit and treats about 1.400 stroke patients per year. A dedicated clinical trial team enables the enrolment of acute stroke patients 24 hours a day.

Götz Thomalla is a renowned expert in stroke research with a track of numerous key publications in the field of acute stroke treatment throughout the past years. He is Coordinating Investigator of the European multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial of MRI-based thrombolysis in stroke patients with unknown time of symptom onset (undefinedWAKE-UP). The clinical stroke research team lead by G. Thomalla has a long-standing tradition in international cooperations in acute stroke research and clinical trials including the participation in European projects funded by FP6 and FP7. There is a close collaboration with undefinedparticipant 14 (CTC North) in coordination and conduct of clinical trials. Outcome and safety of acute stroke treatment has been a core research focus of the clinical stroke research team at UKE during the past years.

UKE will coordinate undefinedWP 6 (Safety Monitoring) and will also be involved as a collaborator in undefinedWP 2 (Outcome Adjudication) and undefinedWP 8 (Dissemination).
